There is a treasure trove of media from the 50s and early 70s that pretty much predict each and every problem we now face; LGBTQWTFO, man made climate change policy, tech and the panic. Almost as if they cold travel in time. More likely the creators of these had a profound understanding of humanity. There may be more for earlier and taller decades but the onesie I have heard or read from before my birth are the ones that have stuck with me.
"More likely the creators of these had a profound understanding of humanity."
That's it in a nutshell Kitsune! The ability to see human nature in all its glories and failures. Think of all the writings going back to the beginning of time that explain things that we are still going through today. Prophesy or standard human nature responses to our lives?
Haven't yet read this but started Quiet Please and gotta give you one huge thank you for the link and post! Can't wait to finish both episodes then read your post after. How wonderful this erstwhile entertainment!
I love old time radio. I listen to it before I fall asleep every night. Quiet Please is one of my favorites. I also like the CBS Radio Workshop, X Minus One (of course), and all the comedies. Mark Lavonier, the host of Tuned to Yesterday has the most soothing voice - enjoy all the programs Jamie!
Got interrupted by dogs and husband while listening and I told my husband I am trying to listen to "Quite Please". He looked a little hurt and said, "Sorry I didn't mean to bother you. I just wanted to know if you wanted ice cream". Well, naturally I did, so after explaining the situation, I read your post out loud to him and he said we'd listen to both shows when we can have a bit of peace and quiet!
You're right about Lavonier's voice. I had to remark to my husband that people just don't articulate like that anymore, don't use meaningful tonal changes, and don't even sound that MALE anymore (when male, of course). I don't know...we've lost a lot of humanity along the way, and it's difficult to express just how. You know it when you hear it. You may miss it when you don't.
Truly loved the post and glad I read it, not just for the precious links, but also for the humor and truth in the post itself. Thank you!!
Thanks Rosemary for reading. I thought the original radio program was funny in a sad sort of way, especially Ellie the leper. Too bad Rod Serling never made a Twilight Zone episode out of it.
I remember hearing this radio program the first time and thinking "everything in history repeats itself." That's why the world is so intent on erasing history, so we think that everything is new and dire! The world is ending! (it isn't until Jesus comes back and nobody knows when that will happen). Until then we must carry on and laugh when we can.

The latter, IMO.
That one pic was Justin Bieber, showing some side effects of the clot shot.
Of course, just goes to show you that there is nothing new under the sun.

Yes, for sure. Laughter is a medicine for the soul and being so serious I need more laughter.
