Dear God:
I've been in my own head way too much lately. That's what happens when you have a lot of time to kill and am also tired of the same old life day in and day out.
Anyways, in my recent thoughts, I got to thinking - why do some people accept that You exist and that Jesus is savior and other people do not? Why do two people who were raised the same way, as Christians, often veer off living completely different lives - one believing in You and the other not?
Of course the answer is free will. One chose to believe and one rejected that belief. But I'm wondering why the rejection? What truth and evidence was found to lead to the rejection? Or was it all just feeling? God has pissed me off in my life, so I reject His existence. Living like Jesus said we should is too hard, so I reject that he is our savior.
I believe it is all feelings. Humans love our feelings. Because if humans simply looked at the facts, they would see the Truth and believe in You. The Truth is there for all to see, you even wrote it down in the Bible and Gospels. But you know us humans, too lazy to read. I was thinking about all this when I read today's Gospel of Matthew 13:10-17:
"The disciples approached Jesus and said, 'Why do you speak to them in parables?' He said to them in reply, 'Because knowledge of the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven has been granted to you, but to them it has not been granted. To anyone who has, more will be given and he will grow rich; from anyone who has not, even what he has will be taken away. This is why I speak to them in parables, because 'they look but do not see and hear but do not listen or understand.' Isaiah's prophecy is fulfilled in them, which says: 'You shall indeed hear but not understand you shall indeed look but never see. Gross is the heart of this people, they will hardly hear with their ears, they have closed their eyes, lest they see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and be converted, and I heal them.' But blessed are your eyes, because they see, and your ears, because they hear. Amen, I say to you, many prophets and righteous people longed to see what you see but did not see it, and to hear what you hear but did not hear it'."
I still don't understand most of that Gospel, but Jesus knew if he spoke plainly to us, we still wouldn't get it or care. So he spoke in parables. Ok, I still don't really get that, but what Jesus is saying is that people who can put their feelings aside and can truly see and hear what He is saying will be blessed. Those who close their eyes and ears to the Truth will not. Jesus is saying we have free will to reject Him and God, but only if we consciously and emotionally close our eyes and ears.
That is what people are doing today in droves, and especially people who call themselves Christians but truly do not believe. The Truth in this world is so apparent and obvious, that people have to consciously close their eyes and ears to reality and make up their own realities according to their feelings. People keep clamoring - "why are these things happening, why is the world so messed up!" Because we are not blessed. We are controlled by people who have closed their eyes and ears to the Truth. We have closed our eyes and ears to the Truth. We chose our fate.
As Jesus says "lest they see with their eyes and hear with their ears and understand with their heart and be converted, and I heal them." There will be no healing until there is conversion. There will be no conversion until we see with our eyes and hear with our ears. On a societal basis, this will probably never happen. On a personal basis, this can happen overnight.
Why do some people see and hear the Truth and believe in God and Jesus and others don't? Because those people's egos and feelings have been vanquished by the Truth, which is rational and never changing. Those people have faith in the blessings promised by Christ, even if never apparent in this world. Those people's Holy Spirits have conquered their mortal bodies' "feelings."
For those people who don't believe in Jesus or God, and close their eyes and ears, they are firmly engrossed in this world. They chose this world and it's never ending chaos of feelings. They are blown to and fro depending on the whim of their, someone elses, or some government's feelings that day. They don't have the Truth to anchor them. They are not blessed. They may have power, but they have no peace and they never will until they open their eyes and ears and are converted.
Thank you God for opening my eyes and ears to the Truth (even if I still don't understand most of Jesus' parables!).
Sincerely,
Napoleon
A curious fact: every time I mention God in my posts (which I do just in passing or when quoting the Bible, but not proselytizing or anything), I instantly lose a few subscribers. Makes me happy, actually. I don't want these types to hang around my substack anyway. Those that stay have passed the test.
Thanks for that!
I seems like "understand with their heart" must come first in order to be able to see and listen. As those that look and hear do not see and listen, nor understand. "Converted" meant from Judaism into Christianity, I gather.
