Yesterday during my 45 minute drive to Church for Sunday Mass, I asked God what He wanted me to do for the upcoming week. The next song on the radio was Triumph's Fight the Good Fight.
I'm a Gen Xer who grew up in the 70’s and 80's, and I always liked Triumph (whatever happened to them?). This song shows that nothing has changed from 1981 or from forever, really. We've been fighting the good fight for a long, long, time. Here's the tune and the lyrics:
The days grow shorter and the nights are getting long
Feels like we're running out of time
Every day it seems much harder tellin' right from wrong
You got to read between the linesDon't get discouraged, don't be afraid, we can
Make it through another day
Make it worth the price we payThe Good Book says it's better to give than to receive
I do my best to do my part
Nothin' in my pockets I got nothin' up my sleeve
I keep my magic in my heartKeep up your spirit, keep up your faith, baby
I am counting on you
You know what you've got to doFight the good fight every moment
Every minute every day
Fight the good fight every moment
It's your only wayAll your life you've been waiting for your chance
Where you'll fit into the plan
But you're the master of your own destiny
So give and take the best that you canYou think a little more money can buy your soul some rest
You'd better think of something else instead
You're so afraid of being honest with yourself
You'd better take a look inside your headNothing is easy, nothing good is free
But I can tell you where to start
Take a look inside your heart
There's an answer in your heartFight the good fight every moment
Every minute every day
Fight the good fight every moment
Make it worth the price we pay (2x)
I really think it's time for us to shout the Good News of Triumph!
There are good things happening all around us. It's not doom and gloom anymore, no matter what the evil demons say or try to do next. Right now the demons are retreating and God has them on their heels. I truly believe that. Why?
Because a small remnant of mankind has been fighting the good fight, “every minute, every day," especially over the last three years. "Fight the good fight every moment. It's your only way."
Geesh, Napoleon, I don't see anything good happening. Nice rose-colored glasses you are wearing."
Ah, but good is happening all around you. Here are some nuggets to make you smile:
Revivals on college campuses and the return to tradition in the Catholic Church
Distrust in the medical industrial complex increasing and use of hospitals/doctors decreasing
The unshotted are healthy, strong and unafraid
The last item in the list above is what I want to talk about the most. We unshotted lepers been hiding much too long. We've been shoved into a leper colony, having to announce our presence to the "clean shotted" by the ringing of bells such as masks, tests, passports, etc.
No more.
Us unshotted are and always have been healthy, strong and unafraid. "Don't get discouraged. Don't be afraid. We can make it through another day. Make it worth the price we pay." We lepers have all paid a large price over the last three years, it's time to make it worth the price we paid. How do we do that?
Not by gloating over our good health versus those who took the shots who may be suffering health issues from them. Not by screaming "I told you so" as each truth comes out (even though I feel like screaming it most times!). Not by expecting a societal reckoning or punishment for those demons who are waging war on us. God has that covered for us already. "Keep up your spirit. Keep up your faith, baby. I am counting on you. You know what you've got to do."
So what do we do to make it worth the price we paid?
Spread the spirit, and spread the faith in how we live our lives from this point forward. I truly believe us lepers were born for this moment in history. "All your life you've been waiting for your chance. Where you'll fit into the plan. But you're the master of your own destiny. So give and take the best that you can."
We are the shining beacons to the majority of others who are afraid of life, death, God and other people. They see us and don't understand why we made the decisions we did, even as all those decisions turned out, and will continue to turn out to be the truth. They still don't understand, but they are watching us, you can be assured. They know that there is something different about us. So it's time we give and take the best that we can.
Give the truth and forgiveness to those who ask for it. Lead by example in our daily lives in showing that our strength comes from God. A strength so powerful that over the past three years we were NEVER afraid. Plant the seeds of faith and spirit among everyone you know. Medical informed consent would have saved us from the past three years of destructive and deadly health decisions. Spiritual informed consent will save us from complete society destruction decisions in the future.
Additionally, those of us who lived through the past three years can never go back to the societal worship of money, fame, earthly delights, and not wanting to die. We just can't. "You think a little more money can buy your soul some rest. You'd better think of something else instead." All those things led to the demons taking control of this world. Let's get our minds off of this world. There is an Eternal Heaven waiting for us. Eternal. Heaven. Do we even know what that means? This earthly life is but a blip. It's here for us to shape ourselves spiritually for the next life - that's all. It's time we start doing that.
"You're so afraid of being honest with yourself. You'd better take a look inside your head." The truth in society disappeared because nobody wants to look inside their heads. None of us can run from God. None of us. He's inside of us whether we like it or not. But we do have the free will to ignore Him completely. But when we do, we are lying to ourselves, and that's why society has collapsed. Once we stop being so afraid of being honest with ourselves, truth can return.
Finally, life is simple. It really is. "Nothing is easy. Nothing good is free. But I can tell you where to start. Take a look inside your heart. There's an answer in your heart." Us lepers looked inside our hearts and saw the answer during the past three years. Yes, you can say that we saw the answer through data, charts, excel spreadsheet, science, etc. But why was our conclusion so different from everyone else who saw the same data? We looked inside our hearts and saw the truth. God spoke to us, even if we didn't know it. We listened. How could it not have been God? Especially if we stuck through all the hardships of job loss, family loss, ostracization, shunning, and still we never wavered from the truth. The power of God was there. There was no other way we would have made it through.
Now we are seeing the fruits of our labors. Small fruits from large labors. Individual people are turning to the good, step by step. We can help them and we can help ourselves by continuing to "Fight the good fight every moment. Every minute every day, and Triumph!"
For this Lenten Season, please enjoy Jesus' modern day good fight against Judas’ choice of music and satan during His 40-day fast in the wilderness:
Not to be a Debbie Downer, but while "fighting the good fight" for God and the truth, be aware that satan will come full force against you. If you speak of being healthy, the next day satan will bring you some sort of sickness. If you speak of the truth coming out, the next day satan will throw more lies your way. If you speak of prayer and Jesus, the next day satan will send doubt and trouble where you question if God even hears your prayers.
It is a never ending cycle of faith/good versus doubt/evil. When you "fight the good fight" you will be fighting against evil forces 24/7/365. That is where faith is so important. Faith in God is everything and is what most humans do not have, including myself. I struggle with faith every second of the day, and somedays the troubles are too overwhelming, but I have to continue to "fight the good fight" even if it appears I am losing.
Excellent, hopeful essay. It is crucial that we remain positive and strong in confronting the evil around us. No matter where this drama ends, we need to remain unafraid to act and speak the truth. We are never alone; God is with us always.
